Overview

With your Qwest.net account you can publish your own Web pages using a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft FrontPage 98, Microsoft FrontPage 2000 or Netscape Composer. You can also edit your Web pages locally or directly on the server, and get information on your disk space.

Important: Only the primary account user can create Web space and publish pages. (The primary account is the one that was set up during registration.)

The instructions provided in this document describe how to use the Web Site Manager found in the Qwest.net Account Tools. Create My Personal Web Page to create and maintain your Web site.

To follow any of the instructions on this page you need to access the Web Site Manager:

  1. Click Account Tools from the Qwest.net navigation bar.
  2. Sign in (you will need to provide your Qwest.net user name and password).
  3. Click the Create My Personal Web Page from the left-side navigation bar.

Before you Start

  1. Create your Web Space in Account Manager
Before you can publish your first Web page, you will first need to "create your Web space" on our server.
    • Open the Web Site Manager. Go to the Qwest.net Account Tools menu in the top Qwest.net navigation bar and click "Create My Personal Web Page."
    • Click on the link "Create Your Web Space" and follow the instructions on that page.

Be sure that you have the URL for your Web space on hand because you will need this for uploading your page. For example: http://www.users.qwest.net/~username.

  2. Name your main web page index.html
Create the name "index.html" for your main Web page (this is so that your main Web page will automatically load when the address for your Web site is entered). Other pages you create that are linked to this main page may be named anything.

Publishing your Web Pages Using FTP

Qwest.net offers FTP access to our Web server. We will set up your primary account user name and password on our FTP server to allow you to access your Web site files.

  • Password: Your primary account password

When you have successfully connected to the Qwest.net FTP server, you will see a "Welcome to Qwest.net FTP Web Publishing" message.
